Terms of Service
Last updated: January 28, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using Diffnote ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Service.
2. Service Description
Diffnote is a free, browser-based document comparison tool. The Service allows you to:
- Compare text documents (TXT, PDF, DOCX, JSON, Markdown)
- View differences in side-by-side or unified layouts
- Export comparison results
All document processing occurs entirely within your web browser. No files are uploaded to or stored on our servers.
3. No Account Required
Diffnote does not require registration, login, or any personal information to use. The Service is available to anyone with a compatible web browser.
4. User Responsibilities
By using the Service, you agree to:
- Use the Service only for lawful purposes
- Not attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Service beyond what is permitted by applicable law
- Not use the Service to process documents you do not have the right to access
- Not use automated tools to scrape, crawl, or place excessive load on the Service
5. Intellectual Property
The Diffnote name, logo, design, and source code are the property of the Diffnote team. You retain full ownership of any documents you process using the Service — we claim no rights over your content.
Diffnote uses open-source libraries including diff-match-patch (Apache 2.0), pdf.js (Apache 2.0), and mammoth.js (BSD 2-Clause), each governed by their respective licenses.
6. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND.
We do not guarantee that the comparison results are 100% accurate, complete, or suitable for any particular purpose. Document parsing (especially PDF and DOCX) may produce imperfect text extraction. You should always verify critical comparisons independently.
7. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Diffnote and its creators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service, including but not limited to damages for loss of data, profits, or business opportunities. Since the Service processes documents locally, data loss from browser crashes or tab closures is outside our control.
8. Service Availability
We strive to keep Diffnote available at all times but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, updates, or circumstances beyond our control. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service at any time without prior notice.
9. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
10. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Korea, without regard to conflict of law principles.
